This is a new programme with which Slovenia will implement the rural development measures based on the EU Regulation and arising from the National Strategic Plan of the Republic of Slovenia defining the goals for rural development in Slovenia until 2013.

The measures are distributed in 4 axes.

Axis 1 – enhancement of the competitiveness of the agriculture and forestry sectors

The measures are intended to increase labour productivity in agriculture and forestry, and thus to raise the level of competitiveness of these sectors. This will be possible through the co-financing of the training for work in agriculture and forestry, encouragement of inter-generation transfer of farms, aid to investments in the modernisation of agricultural holdings and food-processing industry, and adjustment to climate changes.

  • 142 Aid to the foundation of producer groups

Axis 2 – improvement of the environment and countryside (implemented by another sector of the AAMRD)

The measures will contribute to the preservation of the cultivation of the countryside, reduction of the negative impact of agriculture on the environment, and encouragement of sustainable farming.

Axis 3 – quality of life in the countryside and diversification of rural economy

The measures will stimulate employment and opening of jobs in the countryside, and the improvement in the quality of life in the countryside. This will be possible through aids to investments into auxiliary activities on farms, aids in the foundation and development of micro-companies, and activities in the renovation and development of villages.

Axis 4 – LEADER (implemented by the MAFF)

This is a novelty in this programme period, encouraging decision-making on the development of individual regions according to the bottom-up approach. The measures and activities in this axis are intended to strengthen local development initiatives, simultaneously with the achievement of the goals of the 1st, 2nd and especially 3rd axis.
